About C&S

Our Participation in Consortia

A consortium as an association of several companies  is an excellent opportunity to develop common requirements and thereby to exchange experiences of the different members and to incorporate into the result. Consortium working has repeatedly proved itself especially in the field of networked systems.

We keep all kinds of cooperation from companies under the aspect of security in networked systems for very useful and effective.

Our Standardization Work

Standards as accepted sets of rules simplify the coexistence and cooperation in many ways. Especially in technical areas, standards can help to provide security.

Standards create trust and security. Therefore, we work in standardization committees like ISO (International Organization of Standardization) and SAE.

Standardization process of CAN FD started.

Sometimes you can take the word ‘current’ following its late Latin origin quite literally: The ISO WG1 (Working Group 1) was ‘effective, active’ on 26.10.2012 and started the official process of standardization of CAN FD specification. This definition will expand the ISO 11898 series of CAN  specifications.

Up to date: CAN with flexible date rate.

The increasing demands for bandwidth and cost efficient communications protocols inspire the idea to enhance the CAN protocol to support bit-rates higher than 1 Mbit/s and payloads longer than 8 bytes per frame.

April 2012 Bosch has released the first version of the CAN FD specification. Since then we have joint the activities of the CAN FD interest group as well as the CAN FD marketing group. CAN FD specification is intended to be submitted for international standardization to ISO.

Many OEMs worldwide are very interested and some are heavily committed to this approach. The first applications will be focused on ECU flashing. For this purpose, ECU’s with CAN FD protocol controllers will be set in this specific operation mode while other controllers will be kept in standby. The combination of CAN partial networking and CAN FD enhancements increases the possibilities of an easier migration from CAN to CAN FD systems.
We are currently working on laboratory evaluation considering the combination of both technologies as well as analyzing the use cases that should be contemplated later on a conscientious CAN FD conformance test plan.

Please contact  us if you have questions on this subject.

Companion C&S: LIN specifications on the way to international standardization.

After achieving all goals in terms of standardization strategy and technology proliferation, the LIN consortium has decided at the end of 2010 to conclude its activities and initiate a formal standardization process.

Since the very beginning of the LIN Consortium, C&S has contributed with special dedication in different working groups faced with the tasks to create the respective specifications. Furthermore C&S, as first accredited test house, has contributed actively to establish conformance testing and support the interoperability of LIN products from different vendors.
The last release of the LIN specifications are currently as ISO/NP 17987-x (New Proposal) in the ISO process for the development of International Standards. C&S is part of the group of experts in the LIN task force contributing to these activities.
We are proud to have contributed with our work to the growth and success of this technology.
